Community outreach at Hospital Sisters Health System

Our core values motivate us to go well beyond our walls to care for our brothers and sisters in our local communities, as well as all over the world. At Hospital Sisters Health System, you will be encouraged to ask “What can I do?” and given the opportunity to act upon your answer. Across our System, you’ll find many outreach programs already in place and an enthusiastic response to new ideas you bring to assist the people around us.

In 2010/2011, our hospitals and colleagues contributed more than $169.6 million in benefits to their communities, including the delivery of free medical, dental and mental health services, as well as care assistance to women and children. Colleagues have also partnered with Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, which is designed to address the medical needs of people in developing countries.

Whether you volunteer at the local food pantry or in Haiti, you'll find support for your efforts – and satisfaction in giving back.

Here are a few examples of community service from across our System:

  • St. Nicholas Hospital
    St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin is working with the county Public Health Department to provide the Hmong community with access to free preventive health education programs.
  • St. Joseph's Hospital
    St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin has facilitated the Chippewa Health Improvement Partnership since the mid-1990s. Designed to meet the overall health needs of residents, this community-wide initiative has led to the establishment of a free medical clinic in downtown and a free dental clinical near the hospital.
  • St. John's Hospital
    St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois is a partner in Generation H, a coalition founded to combat childhood obesity. The hospital offers Continuing Parent Education Sessions on topics such as childhood wellness, eating healthy on a budget and summer exercise and safety.
  • St. Vincent Hospital
    St. Vincents Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin has joined with HEAL (Helping Elevate Thru Art and Love) to provide therapeutic art sessions to pediatric oncology patents and others with life-threatening illnesses.
