Nursing for 35 years in the same department (ICU) is my job, but the satisfaction comes from the relationships developed with patients, families and colleagues. I became a nurse to fulfill a vocation, to make someone else's day a little better or just to make them feel somewhat special. A smile and holding a hand goes a long way. St. Anthony's makes our community a better place to live. As an employee, I feel secure in the fact that my job means something. This may seem a bit crazy, but my most touching experiences at work come when I'm at someone's bedside when they die. To give comfort to patients and families, just by saying a prayer or holding a hand in the final hours of life, truly makes nursing a faith-filled ministry."
