"My colleagues in Radiology are fantastic! We are like a family – we help each other with exams and help each other's day to go as smoothly as possible. We care about each other and our families. I've worked at large hospitals, but working at a local hospital allows you to know your patients better. I live 10 minutes from work and my son's babysitter is
one mile from work. I love knowing that I'm close to home and my son during the work day. Highland is a special town. Working here, you meet not just people but families. You get to know them out in the community. I love being able to let my patients know that I'm praying for them when they encounter a rough day. Working at a faith-based facility is great for me."
"I have grown in my journey as a member of this hospital. My biggest step, however, occured during Servant Leadership. Servant Leadership helped me grow as a person at work and at home. We are all leaders who serve the greater good. Through this process, I feel I became a better listener with my hospital family, my own children and especially, my wife. When I began at St. Joseph's in 1991, I was a laboratory technologist, learning all the different areas of the lab. In 2003, an opening arose for the assistant lab director. In 2004, when the hospital restructured, I was blessed with the opportunity to grow into the Infection Control Practitioner. My journey has provided many opportunities for growth professionally, spiritually and personally."
"A unique trait of this hospital is its small size, allowing very personalized care for patients and their families. As a colleague at St Joseph's, I have had the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with patients and their families, resulting in treatments that are centered more around a patient's needs versus treatments based only on protocols. I have the benefit of working with a dynamic group of skilled therapists, nurses and medical professionals all with their own area of expertise and experience. This facility truly fosters the idea of a team approach, encouraging all disciplines to work collaboratively to meet our patients' needs."
"I enjoy knowing that through my job, I can contribute to the well-being and the healing of our patients. I have learned to understand the needs and expectations of patients and colleagues, and how my role helps them. I started at this hospital when I was 20 years old and I have seen a lot of changes. I hope I can continue to help progress in the new facility. That is personally a very exciting issue for me. Also, I'm very fortunate that I have a great bunch of people that I work for, and the colleagues who work for me are wonderful."
"I started here fresh out of college, looking for advice and knowledge anywhere I could find it. Now I'm a charge nurse and find myself sharing a lot of that knowledge and advice with others. Every day is a new learning experience and this job has given me many educational opportunities, such as ACLS, TNCC and PALS. I also served as a Meditech instructor internally when St. Joseph's implemented a new medical records management information system. I tell people all the time that the reason I love St. Joseph's Hospital so much is because of the people I work with. The environment is much different from anywhere else I have ever worked. It's like a family."
