At St. Mary's Hospital, our spirit of caring and collaboration energizes our entire staff and enables us to provide exceptional services delivered with compassion and clinical excellence.
Founded in 1878 by three Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, St. Mary's Hospital is a 355-bed, all-private-room health care facility that combines modern technology with the caring tradition of the original founders. Situated on an attractive 21-acre campus overlooking Lake Decatur, we offer a broad spectrum of comprehensive health services, including the latest diagnostic equipment, interventional cardiology, surgical and medical intervention, emergency medical care, outpatient radiation therapy, pain management and a sleep center. We also offer a wide range of community education and wellness programs designed to keep members of our community informed, healthy and vibrant, plus excellent educational and development opportunities for members of our team. In addition, our hospital is the site of a unique intergenerational day services program and is the community's only hospital-based provider of behavioral health services.
Now is an exciting time to join the St. Mary's team, as we have completed the first phase of our redevelopment project that includes a new patient-friendly main lobby, clinical laboratory and state-of-the-art Emergency Department.
St. Mary's has completed the first steps of an aggressive campus modernization and renovation project, covering three floors and over 94,000 feet of space that will make St. Mary's Hospital one of the most modern medical centers in the region. In the future, St. Mary's will also expand their surgical capabilities with new, leading-edge surgical suites, as well as adding modern, new patient rooms, acquiring the latest, most advanced medical technology and much more.
The new emergency department was designed to maximize efficiency and response times, while offering greater comfort and privacy for patients and their loved ones. The ED's capacity for more than 44,000 patients per year is an increase of 25% over the previous design. The lower level of the emergency department is also home to our new clinical laboratory, expanding our laboratory capabilities and increasing our ability to perform laboratory work with speed and efficiency.
The hospital's two-story lobby and reception area is also completely new, with an open, inviting design that creates a sense of tranquility. Vegetation and water are represented throughout, in the spirit of the Franciscan belief of nature's healing capability.
